Starred n' Striped 2 & 3
During the final months of my Sculpture and Ceramics BFA at UNC Greensboro, my hometown of Asheville, North Carolina, was overwhelmed by the flooding caused by Hurricane Helene. In response, I created a body of work exploring loss, place, and memory, referencing real locations affected by the disaster. Each ceramic painting was made by layering underglaze into plaster molds and submerging them in slip composed of minerals collected from Western North Carolina. These surfaces are not only visual records but also physical evidence of the land itself.
