Country gas stations served more than gasoline to their communities. Often the only place for miles, these gathering spots afforded distant neighbors a place to share news and socialize, and where children could walk together for an ice cream cone. Many of these roadside institutions have closed, but serve society's evolving needs- Perhaps as a trendycoffee shop, or in the case of this Carrollton service station, ann antique auction. This painting connects even deeper to Carrollton as I painted it on a piece of the original door from the 1913 Carrollton post office, another repurposed building that once connected so many.
